Three days of mourning have been declared across the United Arab Emirates.

A statement from the Ministry of Presidential Affairs confirmed Sheikha Hessa bint Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, mother of the country’s President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, passed away on Sunday (28th January).

In its statement, the Ministry also declared a three-day official mourning period, starting today.
